Best Midi controller/control surface for GarageBand/Logic?
Garageband doesn't natively support Control Surfaces, so the full functionality of the Launchkey won't be available with it. In Garageband, you can utilize the Keyboard to play your Virtual Instruments, and the Faders and Knobs will output MIDI CC Messages (detailed here) for plugins that support Manual MIDI Mapping. Additionally, the Pads will. However, an iPad can definitely be used as a decent keyboard rig, especially when price and portability are at a premium. And even if you're using MainStage, an iPad can supplement your setup with additional apps and sounds, or can be used as an additional control surface. What's your preference?
I'm looking to stay off the mouse and keyboard as much as possible, but can't afford anything near a Mackie Control. I keep hearing mixed things about how the midi controllers that have these features work. I'm hoping they can't all be that bad?
I didn't quite understand everything I read, but didn't the new GB open up itself a bit more in this area with the latest version? I think I might stay on GB for quite awhile before jumping to Logic. I was looking at the Akai MPK Mini and the Axiom Mini. I'm interested in the other features as well and any other options. Also, I'm willing to step up that budget a bit as well. I was also looking at the Ci2+ as even though that's Cubase centric, most of the controls could still be mapped right? It even has a footpedal option to punch in and out. I know it's not that great of hardware, but those aspects and the low price I found of 130 are making it compelling. I can't see why other interfaces don't have those types of features or why the DAW makers can't put out a simple control surface that's inexpensive. I think Presonus is the only one to do this? I was also looking at something like the NanoKontrol2, but since I want a midi controller with pads anyhow it seems like buying that would be a bit redundant? Do the Akai MPD units do this type of thing as well? What about the control app? Is that iPad only and not iPhone? What's the oldest iPad I could get that would be worthwhile if that's the best route? I'm just trying to cover the most ground with the least amount of finances while still trying to get something worthwhile and spend where it makes the most sense. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Before you check firewall and control surface settings, make sure your device running Logic Remote is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac:

If you still can't connect, check to see if you have a TouchOSC device added in Logic Pro, then remove it if you do.
